Does it have to come from the pictures on
the wall?
The printed graphics on the wall are called flash. They
are created by various tattoo artists around the
world and for use by others. We also have a
substantial reference library and in-shop internet
access.
I’ve
got another specific image in mind, can I use
that?
Sure. We often use photos, drawings, or images
from websites to create the tattoo you want.
There’s
an image I like, but I want it different colors,
another size, or just drawn a little differently.
Consult with the tattoo artist you choose about
changing details. We will work with you to get an image
you’re going to be happy with. A note
of caution: If you choose an image with a lot
of detail, it may not be able to be ‘shrunk
down’. Either go with enough size for
the detail to show well, or choose a less detailed
image for the size you want.
I
want an image that is custom drawn for me. Can I see examples of the artists’ work?
All of our artists at Southside Tattoo are skilled
artists adept at many different styles. Any
one of them will design a custom tattoo for you. There
are books of photos at the front of the shop with
examples of our work.
After you’ve chosen the artist, arrange for
a design consultation. Bring any examples of
styles, colors or images you would like to base your
design upon and we can discuss it with you. We
would be happy do draw a design for you, but a deposit
will be required. The deposit will be credited
toward the final tattoo session.
Are ‘walk-ins’ okay?
Each of our artists keeps his/her own schedule
of appointments. Appointments are encouraged. However,
we do our best to accommodate walk-ins. If
there is no one immediately available when you
arrive, we make every effort to set a time which
works with your schedule.
I’m looking for a particular style. Who
specializes in which style?
Generally, each of us does a wide variety of work. Take
a look at the books or talk to us. We’re
happy to discuss what you’re looking for.
What does it cost to get a tattoo?
Tattooing price is determined based on the amount
of time to do the work. There is an hourly
shop rate posted at the counter. You can
get a pretty close estimate by discussing the size
and details of your particular design with the
tattoo artist you’ve chosen.
How long does it take?
It depends on the design. The person who does
your work will give you an estimate when you discuss
the design. A large or complex image might
require multiple sessions.
What about the pain thing?
We won’t lie to you. For most people
there is a certain amount of pain involved. It
varies by person and by what part of your body you
get tattooed. You know yourself best. For
the most part the feeling quickly subsides to something
like a scrape and a sunburn when the work is finished. Then
you get the buzz from walking out with a great piece
of art!
